Pick & Turkey league (17 Sep 2010)

campaignlive.co.uk, Friday, 17 September 2010 11:23AM

Which agencies are creating work worthy to be picked by Campaign's team of avid ad watchers and which are coming out looking like a turkey?

PICK OF THE WEEK

Anne Cassidy was truly charmed by Mother’s first ad for Ikea since winning the account earlier this year: "This is such a beautiful ad. Mother released a hundred cats into an Ikea store to have a roam around (I assume they are still trying to get the pee stains out of the furniture), resulting in this wonderfully spontaneous and very cute film. If only shopping in Ikea was as pleasant an experience as watching this." The ad was directed by Adam Berg through Stink.

TURKEY OF THE WEEK

Ian Darby wants to kick sand in the face of Amazon’s TV spot for its Kindle reader device: "The Kindle looks like a smart piece of technology but one thing its critics have suggested is that it’s not very well suited to taking on a beach – with sun, salt, water and sand all providing potential for mishaps. So what does Amazon do? Makes an ad that features a bloke in a deckchair on a beach reading his Kindle. He looks less at ease than people reading a newspaper or a paperback would appear in the same situation."
