Halfords calls up 118 man for top marketing role

Car and cycle specialist Halfords has appointed Gerry Murphy, former chief executive of 118 118 owner The Number, as group brand marketing director.

Murphy left 118 118 in May and joins Halfords on 4 January. He will be responsible for developing and implementing Halfords brand marketing strategy across all channels, and launching the rebranded Halfords Autocentres.

Gerry worked at Matalan and Toys R Us befor becoming marketing director at Superdrug where he repositioned the brand and stores around beauty.

From there he led 118 118 for two years.

David Wild, chief executive of Halfords said: "Gerry has an impressive track record in brand development with leading retail companies. He also has considerable commercial experience and in depth knowledge of both on and offline channels."

Halfords appointed DLKW Lowe to its £10m ad account in August.
