Independent bar and restaurant chain Slug and Lettuce is to launch a web site (www.slugandlettuce.com) at the end of February. The site, developed by Domino Systems, will carry menus, nutritional information and maps of the company's 32 outlets. There are plans to expand the site by selling merchandise such as t-shirts.

"We have a weird name, so we're eager to make clear to people what it is we're all about," said Vicky Wilkinson, brand manager at Slug and Lettuce.

She said the company's independence gave it the freedom to develop the site as it wished, unlike brewery-owned chains such as All Bar One.
