Napster adds CDNow retail link on site

Online music company Napster has added a link on its website to CD retailer CDNow. The link is seen as an important move towards endearing the company to the music industry.

LONDON (Brand Republic) - Online music company Napster has added a link on its website to CD retailer CDNow. The link is seen as an important move towards endearing the company to the music industry.

Napster was sued last year by a number of record labels for breaching copyright laws with its music-swapping service. Napster has since signed an agreement with Bertelsmann, one of the companies that filed the lawsuit, and the two have been working on a business model whereby record labels get paid for the use of their material.

The link to CDNow, which is part of the Bertelsmann group, is the first commercial element on the company’s site. It tests analysts’ theories that consumers are more likely to buy CDs after listening to a free digital version of the music.
