Intel and Red Bull: Curie technology gathers movement data on athletes' performances

Red Bull will feed athletes’ performance data such as movement, force, velocity and torque information into its various content channels  to provide fans with greater insight.

Red Bull claims the data captured by Intel’s Curie technology will allow brands to create "unique content [and] inform programming and future content projects".

ESPN will use the data gathered by Intel in its coverage of X Games Aspen 2016, an extreme sports competition.

Intel’s Curie technology will be used during coverage of the Men’s Snowboard Slopestyle and Men’s Snowboard Big Air competitions to provide real-time data on the performances.

Data will include information on in-air rotations, jump height, jump distance, speed, and force on landing.

Along with providing sports fans with more stats during coverage, the Red Bull and ESPN initiatives are also designed to give the athletes greater insight into their performances.

Data aims to help athletes spot weaknesses faster and perform more safely.
