Zenith Media has beefed up its planning credentials in Europe by
poaching a senior media planner from its sister agency, Saatchi and
Tim Cunningham, a group media director at Saatchis, won the IPA Media
Effectiveness Grand Prix award in February. He is to join Zenith’s
European client services group as one of four group directors, reporting
to Tim Jones, the client services director for Europe at Zenith.
Cunningham, who works on accounts including Visa, Procter and Gamble and
Army Recruitment at Saatchis, has yet to arrange a formal leaving date.
John Perriss, the chairman of Zenith Media Worldwide, played down
reports that the hiring had caused a row with Saatchis, which knew
nothing of the move until Cunningham resigned.
Perriss said the decision to hire Cunningham was in line with Zenith’s
strategy of ‘recruiting, motivating and keeping the best talent’.
He added: ‘Tim Cunningham was in the market. He is a real lateral
thinker who is very much in the mould of the people we have already got,
such as Andy Tilley [the deputy managing director of Zenith in the UK]
and Rosemary Gorman [a strategic planning director in the UK]. It is an
area we have been strengthening, not only in the UK, but in Europe as
Mike Gorman, the media director at Saatchis, is on holiday this week and
was unavailable for comment.
