Bristol & West is reviewing its advertising arrangements and has
employed a consultant to come up with an agency shortlist.
The company’s creative and media are currently handled by Bristol-based
JPH, which counts Bristol & West as its largest client.
The bank is in the process of expanding into the online finance market
and has a service in the pipeline with the working title
Martin Palmer, Bristol & West marketing director, has asked the
Advertising Agency Register to draw up a list of creative agencies -
that will include the incumbent - for the review.
’We have no complaints with the service JPH has supplied. The review has
been instigated because Martin has been looking at areas of new-business
development,’ said Ali Bradshaw, a Bristol & West spokesperson.
She continued: ’The review may not even reach a pitch process.’
However, she added that if the process does not lead to a pitch, and if
JPH drops off the list, then an examination of the media account is
expected to follow.
Aside from Bristol & West, JPH works for tour operator Page & Moy.
Stephanie Smart, media director at JPH, heads planning and buying on the
Bristol & West account, assisted by media manager Matt Rees and
planner/buyer Louise McGuinness.
The Bristol & West advertising account is worth around pounds 7 million
but last year just pounds 183,000 was spent on media. It ran its last
television campaign in 1998.
Bristol & West was once a building society but was absorbed by the Bank
of Ireland group in July 1997.
