Simon Devitt, the chief executive of the Audit Bureau of Circulations, has resigned to head a new business-to-business venture. John Mayhead, the chairman of the ABC, will oversee Devitt’s role until a successor has been found.

Attic Futura’s editorial director, Penny Dash (left), is leaving the

company to set up her own editorial consultancy. Dash joined the company

in 1998 and worked on the launch of Shine and Real Health and Beauty.

She will continue to work with Attic Futura as a consultant on new media

and publishing projects.





Emap Esprit has appointed Paul Sloggett marketing director. Sloggett,

who has been at Emap for ten years, was most recently the marketing

development director of Emap Active. At the same time Emap has named the

division responsible for new projects elanInvent, which will be headed

by Sue Hawken, the president of Emap Elan.





URwired.com, the digital entertainment e-tailer, has signed a two-year

agreement with Telewest to provide a channel on Telewest’s digital TV

service. Chris Townsend, the director of interactive services at

Telewest, said: ’URwired.com’s high-speed fulfilment and high level of

customer service make it a welcome addition to our interactive TV

service.’ The deal combines both fixed fee and revenue share.





A new lifestyle magazine for extreme sports enthusiasts launches next

month. Slack will be published by Arcwinds and will target a youth

audience of 15 years and over. It will have a cover price of pounds

2.75.





Microsoft’s plans to buy a stake in the cable company Telewest are under

scrutiny following the launch of a detailed second-stage investigation

by the European Union’s Competition Commission. Microsoft has invested

in several cable operators in the US and Europe as it looks to extend

its Windows operating system from personal computers to television. The

EU watchdog is holding a four-month enquiry which will assess the deal’s

impact on the digital cable industry.





Walkers is to relaunch Cheetos crisps through the Cartoon Network.

Promotional activity will include text on Cheetos packets encouraging

consumers to tune into the Cartoon Network channel and its website.

On-air ads will also signpost the website, where Chester Cheetah will be

featured in a moving banner, while Cheetos will have its own microsite.

Cheetos ads will also run in Cartoon Network’s summer comic. The deal,

which runs from April to October, was put together by Walkers, the

Cartoon Network and MediaVest.





James Evans is resigning from his position as chairman of Bristol United

Press following its takeover by the Daily Mail Group. Evans, who will

also step down from the Newspaper Society presidency in July, said that

he had been happy overseeing the transition to 100 per cent Daily Mail

ownership but that the need for an independent chairman no longer

applies. A successor will be announced in August.





Emap Elan’s new offshoot, Emap Elan East, which had been Wagadon before

it was acquired by Emap last year, is to launch Project Pop, a bi-annual

spin-off from the veteran style title The Face (left). The magazine,

which will launch in the autumn, will feature fashion and popular

culture.





BBC Worldwide has signed a two-year video-on-demand deal with Yes

Television. The programming will be BBC branded and will be available on

a BBC branded site. It includes output from Drama, Documentaries,

Natural History, Lifestyle and Comedy.





WV Publications, the publisher of Pregnancy and Baby’s Best Buys,

launches its latest title New Baby on 9 April.
