- The two fat ladies, Jennifer Paterson and Clarissa Dickson Wright, who front the humorous TV cooking show of the same name, are to star in a National Lottery ad campaign to promote the latest instant tickets game bingo.
The campaign through Saatchi & Saatchi comes as the agency battles to hold onto the £16 million national lottery account. Camelot, which runs the lottery, has invited Publicis, J. Walter Thompson, M&C Saatchi, WCRS, and Duckworth Finn Grubb Waters to make presentations for the business.
The bingo ad is set in a glamorous restaurant and plays on famous bingo catch phrases. As guests arrive for a dinner a sombre maitre d' allocates guests according to a number associated with bingo.
As the two fat ladies approach the Maitre d' cheekily comments to the waiter "the two fat ladies, table eighty eight".
A range of other characters are allocated tables equivalent to their bingo numbers, from a long legged woman 'eyes down legs eleven' to camera snapping Japanese tourists "table 66 clickety click".
The TV campaign through Saatchi & Saatchi London hits the screen on July 5. It will run for two weeks and will be supported by a six-sheet poster campaign. The campaign carries the strapline: "If you're game for bingo, we are".
