- ITV attracted an audience of nearly 19 million for Wednesday night's dramatic Champions League Final in which Manchester United scored twice in injury time to beat Germany's Bayern Munich.
Early figures reveal that, at its peak, the audience reached 18.8 million, giving ITV a 71 per cent audience share. The average audience was 15.5 million, giving a 64 per cent share.
Brian Barwick, ITV's controller of Sport, said: "It was a fabulous finale to this year's Champions League season. Looking ahead, it's now clear that the Champions League is the biggest competition in televised club football."
With four British clubs in action next season - Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Glasgow Rangers - ITV will have exclusive coverage of 17 Champions League matches on the main channel and coverage on ITV2 of all the other European team fixtures.
