- Publicis' chief executive, Richard Hytner, is understood to be on the shortlist for the role as chief executive of the ITV Network Centre.

The position has been vacant since the departure of Richard Eyre last October.

Hytner's principal contender for the position is understood to be Dominic Procter, chief operating officer of media buying agency MindShare.

Other contenders for the role are said to include Peter Littlewood, a marketer from Mars confectionery in the US.

The position of chief executive of ITV, although highly sought-after, will require a strong mediator to deal with the three companies Granada, United News & Media and Carlton, which are all vying for control of ITV.

Although United News and Carlton agreed a merger, Granada has indicated it is debating an offer for either company. The affair is now being dealt with by the Competition Commission.
