- The BBDO network is to merge its South African agency Gitam with an independent local corporate communications company, VWV Studios, to create one of the country's largest agencies.
The new agency, the name of which has yet to be decided, will pitch itself as an integrated agency. The two have already worked together for the past year on financial services company ABSA.
Yossi Schwartz, chief executive officer at Gitam, said: "The South African market requires more integrated communications work from agencies and VWV's strengths are just that. The merger will open doors to each other's clients, who will now have a spectrum of service options."
He add: "The plan is to introduce something new and fresh to South African advertising, and to change the approach of advertising towards communications."
The merger follows a number of recent wins for Gitam totalling billings of $4.5 million. The wins include PG Autoglass won in a pitch against Bates, DDB and McCann-Erickson.
