Jeff Randall Live
We always enjoy the snarling "man of the people" approach adopted by Randall, the face of Sky's business coverage, so we like that his evening show has moved to four days a week. The relaunched programme, airing at 7.30pm, kicked off with an interview with the chancellor, Alistair Darling, and some other big-name guests are already confirmed. The BBC's Robert Peston might be flavour of the month right now, but we're looking forward to Randall's response.
Channel 4's daytime revamp
The downturn is biting commercial broadcasters, so it's impressive to see what Channel 4 is doing with its afternoon schedule on a limited budget. We're loving the revamp of Countdown, complete with Sky Sports' Jeff Stelling at the helm. Stelling seems at home already and "numbers girl" Rachel Riley is better than the pre-show publicity suggested. The return of one of our favourites, Celebrity Come Dine With Me, completes an entertaining line-up. The money saved on Richard And Judy is being spent wisely.
Nokia's 'Here and Now' site
Nokia has realised the best way to keep customers coming back for more is to give them interesting content. So, it's launching a news, music and celebrity site, called Here and Now, bookmarked on to every Nokia device. The new site sits in the existing Nokia.mobi website and content is syndicated from the likes of Reuters and Rolling Stone. Until now, Nokia.mobi has just bored customers with an introduction to the mobile internet, so both its customers and advertisers will be happy.
The Krypton Factor
There was a danger that the return of The Krypton Factor on ITV1 could have amounted to little more than a misjudged nostalgia-fest. But ITV, along with Sage, the business consultancy that is funding the programme, has successfully updated the show. Credit also to Drum PHD, Sage's agency, for working so tirelessly on the concept. We especially like the new fiendishly tough assault course, and the new host Ben Shephard is holding his own. Drum and Sage have also developed some excellent online content to accompany the show (www.trainyourbusinessbrain.com).
AND ONE THING WE DON'T ...
The demise of Findus
The credit crunch has claimed some notable casualties in the media, financial and retail sectors but we were particularly downcast this week when Findus, the maker of the famous crispy pancake, went into administration. In homage, we made a final trip to Iceland to load up on the breadcrumbed beauties while humming the tune from Findus' famous 80s ad. The chorus of "we hope it's chips, it's chips" almost brought a tear to the eye.
