J Sainsbury plans to open 50 new supermarkets and expand 50 more of its stores over the next two years after raising £445 million to fund the expansion.

European privacy regulators may stop social network sites, such as Facebook, releasing users’ personal data to make money. It is proposing tighter rules to protect data passed on to third-party developers on these sites.

BT plans to expand its super-fast broadband network to 90 per cent of homes after the Government proposed introducing a broadband tax in its final Digital Britain report.

British Airways has agreed a deal with the pilots’ union Balpa, which will lead to 78 redundancies and a 2.6 per cent pay cut. In return, pilots will share a pot of £13 million in shares that they can cash-in in 2014.
