Dentsu Taiwan is conducting an internal investigation after allegations of bribery connected with its World Games account.

The probe follows allegations that the agency paid money to a Kaohsiung Department of Information official involved in the pitch for the account. The official was detained last month and The Taipei Times claimed the bribe was $77,000.

Nearly 6,000 athletes from 103 countries took part in the Games, which were held in Kaohsiung in July and featured sports that are not contested in the Olympics. Dentsu was responsible for all media planning and buying on the $2 million account.
