The initial project will involve rebuilding and modernising the company's recruitment website.

Once relaunched, the agency will then be briefed to create a digital campaign aimed at promoting the new site to potential recruits and driving traffic. It is also thought that if the work is successful, the account will lead to bigger briefs from the company and a possible place on the roster.

Shell is currently in the process of putting together a long-list of agencies with chemistry meetings expected to begin before the end of the month.

At present, the oil company works with a number of digital agencies across separate parts of its business.

Iris Worldwide is the lead global agency on Shell's retail account, having picked up the business in October 2007 following a pitch against undisclosed agencies.

In April last year, it appointed Twentysix London to its roster after a pitch against more than 20 agencies.
