HOW TO GET AHEAD: WHAT IT’S LIKE TO WORK FOR ... SHE - With 40% bonuses up for grabs it’s no wonder that the staff here laugh all day

What does it do? ’The team sells the market-leading glossy magazine for busy, modern women. We sell to ad agencies, clients and PRs, convincing them that it has never been sexier to be in your thirties,’ explains Kathy Moulton, She’s ad director.

What does it do? ’The team sells the market-leading glossy magazine

for busy, modern women. We sell to ad agencies, clients and PRs,

convincing them that it has never been sexier to be in your thirties,’

explains Kathy Moulton, She’s ad director.

Good office? The advertising and editorial teams at the National

Magazine Company’s 33 Broadwick Street office sit next to one another,

engendering a rare spirit of co-operation. ’We have regular meetings and

socialise together,’ reveals Moulton. It’s in the middle of Soho,

surrounded by London’s finest restaurants, cafes and shops. Oxford

Street, Regent Street and theatreland are all only three minutes

away.

What’s it like? The She team is a hardworking bunch but, according to

Moulton, ’spends a large proportion of each day laughing’. ’We socialise

a fair bit out of hours and can often be found propping up the bar at

Circus, where we receive volume discounts.’

Any perks? For a start, top sales staff are minted, receiving bonuses of

up to 40 per cent of their salary. They also get annual profit-related

pay, Bupa healthcare, five weeks holiday and a pension scheme so good

that staff often hang around until their dotage. Oh, and sales folk have

the chance to win an extra pounds 2,500 per quarter.

’We also get to see a semi-clad Terry Mansfield on the big screen at our

annual conference, broadcasting from his sun lounger,’ says Moulton. ’No

other company can boast this perk.’

What about training? ’Training is central to NatMags’ philosophy and is

encouraged for all workers.’

How does it recruit? ’We recruit internally wherever we can, then by

word of mouth and enthusiastic agency recommendation.’

How do you get ahead? ’You need determination, a love for She and

women’s glossies, and a sense of humour. Our reps are the most

hardworking and talented in the business, which is probably why they

often get poached.’
