AMV Advance appoints ex-O&M creative Gill

AMV Advance, the Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO group's integrated

specialist, has hired Stuart Gill, the former Ogilvy & Mather creative

group head, as its first executive creative director.

Gill, a Cannes silver award-winner with his work for First Choice

holidays, is being taken on to provide creative direction and

personality for the two-year-old shop set up to handle Sainsbury's local

marketing business.

Gill's arrival changes the current arrangement under which creative

control has been shared between Rob Purdie and Dave Smith. He joined the

agency when it absorbed Clark & Taylor. Both Purdie and Smith will

remain as creative directors.

The appointment culminates a six-month search for a creative chief and

comes in the wake of extra assignments to the agency from Sainsbury's

and Argos, as well as Warner Village Cinemas and the Crimestoppers

Trust.

AMV Advance's managing director, Steve Carrigan, said: "We wanted

somebody to galvanise the creative department and provide leadership,

which reflects the fact that we're part of a group with a great creative

heritage."

Gill, who will take charge of the agency's six teams, said: "I like the

idea of joining an agency that feels like a start-up but has solid

credentials."

1 Why creative people have lost their way

What better way to kick off the inaugural issue of Campaign's monthly print offering than with another think piece on the current failings of our industry, written by an embittered, pretentious creative who misses "the way things used to be"...
