AMV boosts board with two recruits

Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO is bolstering its boardroom in line with

new-business gains by hiring the WCRS vice-chairman, Richard Swaab, and

a former agency executive and client Peter Cowie.



Swaab, who worked on the famous Guinness campaign starring Rutger Hauer

at Ogilvy & Mather, will take over as global planning director on the

brewer's account, which the BBDO network has been appointed to handle in

Europe and the US.



Cowie, a former marketing director of Two Way TV and Sharepeople.com, is

expected to work on projects that exploit this expertise.



The appointments come two weeks before Andrew Robertson, the AMV chief

executive, moves to New York to become president and chief executive

officer of BBDO North America.



But Cilla Snowball, AMV's managing director, insisted the pair would not

be taking on any of Robertson's responsibilities and would have been

hired irrespective of his departure. 'They are part of our strategy of

bringing in the best senior talent,' she said.



Snowball, Robertson, Swaab and Cowie have all been involved in previous

working relationships.



Swaab worked with Robertson and Snowball at O&M and, in 1990, left CDP,

where he was head of planning, to work with Robertson at WCRS. Cowie,

who also worked at O&M, CDP and WCRS, was Swaab's client when he ran the

Sharepeople account for WCRS.



Michael Baulk, who heads BBDO in Europe, the Middle East and Africa,

will resume his role as CEO in London when Robertson leaves.
