The Annual 2004: The 10 Most unhappy hunters

1. John Perriss, former worldwide chief executive, ZenithOptimedia

As a man who rides to hounds (for hoi polloi that means going foxhunting), Perriss is a serious huntsman. A member of the Vale of Aylesbury hunt, since taking retirement earlier this year, the archetypal country gent Perriss can be found at weekends in the pink pursuing the inedible.

2. Jonathan Young, editor, The Field

The least surprising member of the list, Young is a passionate supporter of all field sports. The owner of six guns, he has shot ptarmigan in the Arctic Circle, Cape Buffalo in Tanzania and tracked moose in British Columbia.

3. Ian McCulloch, operations director, ITV Broadcasting

Having worked at ITV during the Carlton and Granada merger, McCulloch knows a thing or two about culls. An accomplished shot, McCulloch spends weekends stalking deer in the Scottish Highlands. It's so much more original than joining a bunch of dreary middle managers dressed in ridiculous pastel-coloured clothes to hit a little white ball around the suburbs, isn't it?

4. Stephen Woodford, chief executive, WCRS

As a member of adland's aristocracy and a president of the IPA, it's not surprising that Woodford is also a keen shot.

5. Toby Hoare, HSBC global client leader, WPP

As well as successfully securing the HSBC business for WPP, Hoare is said to handle his weapon masterfully.

6. Nick Milligan, managing director, Sky Media

What is it with guns and these TV sales folk? For the farmer's son Milligan, shooting is in the blood and he can be found on rough shoots as well as trout rivers with best pal Paul Curtis.

7. Andy Bagnall, director of knowledge management, ITV Sales

A recent convert to shooting, Bagnall, ITV's head of cleverness, has bought himself a rather nice over-and-under Berretta and spends most weekends at his local clay shoot. For those interested, his speciality is shooting birds away, gun up.

8. John Banks, chief executive, FCB London

Banks seems to fit the shooting stereotype although it is not known if he wears a pair of breeks while out hunting.

9. Michael Green, former chief executive, Carlton TV

A bit like Richard de Vere, Green has used the fortune he made from the TV industry to live a life to the manor born and is consequently a keen supporter of his local Gloucestershire hunt.

10. Simon Marquis, chairman, ZenithOptimedia

Just kidding. Marquis is, of course, the most famous twitcher in advertising, preferring to spend his spare time crouched in a bush looking at birds. And they say shooting is a strange hobby.
