- Online service AOL is to offer free email accounts to young homeless people in partnership with the leading London charity for the homeless, Centrepoint
The email accounts will be for a six month duration and, along with offering a secure email facility, AOL will also offer full internet access, giving many their first experience of cyberspace.
The email accounts will go to the residents of the 'foyers', which are run by Centrepoint. The foyers, of which there are three in central London, provide secure accommodation and training for young homeless people.
The move is designed to give Centrepoint's residents an advantage when applying for jobs. The initiative will, according to Jonathan Bulkeley, the managing director of AOL, go some way to break the pattern of 'no home, no job; no home' that many homeless young people encounter.
AOL will also supply accounts to the London training centres and to the recruitment consultancy for job-ready young homeless, Streets Ahead.
