Banks Hoggins gives IDV gin a stylish twist

Banks Hoggins O’Shea has released a new wave of advertising for Bombay Sapphire gin, after the brand’s owner, IDV, pumped up its ad budget in response to the spirit’s growing popularity.

budget in response to the spirit’s growing popularity.



Three double-page press executions use stylish photo-graphy to highlight

Bombay Sapphire’s premium image. On the left-hand side of the page,

close-ups of different views of a gin and tonic are pictured, featuring

a twist of lime and a glimpse of the distinctive blue bottle.



On the right, three smaller pictures accompany a text square containing

the lines: ’The world’s first Premier Cru gin?’, ’You know how some bars

have that certain something? Well, this is that certain something’, and

’When you can buy any gin, you don’t buy any gin.’ The endline for all

three ads reads: ’Ten botanicals + unique distillation method = gin,

only better.’



Ken Hoggins, a founding partner of Banks Hoggins, said: ’There seems to

be a renaissance in gin advertising at the moment. The image has gone

from Colonel Blimp to the drink to drink.’



Banks Hoggins also handles Bombay Sapphire’s international advertising,

and ads are about to break in Japan and Belgium. A cinema commercial has

also been produced, which will be shown in selected ’art house’

cinemas.



The print work was art directed by Rob Fletcher and written by Dave

Alexander.



The photographer on the project was Fleur Olby. Media is channelled

through Western International Media.
