- Italian pasta maketer, Barilla, has shortlisted Young & Rubicam and Saatchi & Saatchi to pitch for its $90 million (£54.5 million) international advertising account.

The review follows a dispute between Barilla and its former incumbent agency, Grey Advertising. Barilla fired Grey from its account because Cenajans/Grey, based in Istanbul, advised another client on an ad that Barilla claimed attacked Italian pasta.

The offending ad was created by Turkish mobile phone network, Telsim, as part of a campaign to get the Italian government to deport a Kurdish rebel.

It showed a single drop of blood dripping down toward a plate of pasta, with the slogan, "Keep your pasta clean!". Italian TV stations refused to air the ad.

Grey handled Barilla in North America, Latin America and Asia-Pacific out of its New York office and co-ordinated Europe through its Dusseldorf office. Young & Rubicam, Milan, holds the Barilla business in Italy, the company's biggest market.
