Although Leagas was initially handed the work for the wireless e-mail device on a project basis, it was expected the agency would be appointed for the long term. However, the arrival of Kristof Fahy, BlackBerry's marketing director, from Orange in January, has led to the rethink.
"We worked together for three to four months, but I just don't think there was a meeting of minds," Fahy said.
Elliot Moss, Leagas' managing director, said: "We were appointed on a project basis and completed the launch of the 8700 project in March."
Albion is now preparing a launch campaign for the 7130 model across Europe.
Fahy said BlackBerry was targeting everyone, from "a policeman on the beat to (Sir Martin) Sorrell at WPP".
BlackBerry is owned by the Canadian company Research in Motion.
