BMP’s Rapley joins Claydon Heeley as joint vice-chairman

Mark Rapley, the deputy managing director of BMP DDB, is moving to sister direct marketing agency Claydon Heeley Jones Mason as its joint vice-chairman.

Mark Rapley, the deputy managing director of BMP DDB, is moving to

sister direct marketing agency Claydon Heeley Jones Mason as its joint

vice-chairman.

Rapley, who joins this week, will work alongside the vice-chairman, Leo

Campbell, and report to the chairman Jon Claydon. His role will be more

clearly defined after he has spent some months there, but initially he

will handle the Compaq account, which he handled at BMP.

Rapley is the second high-profile BMP staffer to move to DDB’s direct

marketing side. Nigel Jones, formerly the planning director of BMP, was

one of the four founding partners of Jones Mason and is now the joint

chief executive of Claydon Heeley.

’Strategically, he is another hardwire into BMP’s DNA,’ Claydon said,

’although we didn’t just hire him because of that. He is a king suit, a

one-off, inspired by BMP and seduced by Claydon Heeley.’

Rapley said: ’Claydon Heeley is a very interesting place and its

expertise is becoming increasingly important in the marketplace. There

will be lots of bridges back to BMP, with Compaq at the moment and more

to follow.’

The news comes in the same week as the departure of Steve Barton from

Claydon Heeley. Barton, a founding partner of Jones Mason Barton Antenen

- the direct marketing agency set up by BMP and Claydon Heeley last year

- left after no suitable role was found for him following the merger of

his agency with Claydon Heeley. (Campaign, 14 January)

No-one would comment on Barton’s departure.
