Boots recruits Jessie J for glamorous Christmas campaign

Boots has employed pop singer Jessie J to sing on the soundtrack for this year's Christmas ad campaign, which transports the viewer into a world of style and glamour.

The ad by Mother is shot through the eyes of a firefly, which sweeps through an array of festive rooms filled with beauty products.

The soundtrack is the 50s classic (Everybody’s Waitin’ For) The Man with the Bag, performed by Jessie J, the pop singer and former coach on BBC talent show The Voice.

The spot was directed by Joseph Kahn, who has directed pop videos for American stars Britney Spears and Taylor Swift, through Supply & Demand and Caviar.

Kahn said: "I loved this script as soon as I read it. What makes this concept so awesome is the idea of treating Boots' Christmas offerings as a spark to inspire a living, breathing Christmas wonderland, all contained inside this mysterious factory.

"The key was to shoot from the firefly's POV which allowed us to zip and zoom, seamlessly from room to room whilst taking the audience on a soaring journey past the colours, faces and menagerie of products in a stylish Christmas world."

It breaks on Sunday, 8 November, during Downton Abbey on ITV. Shorter edits will run on TV from 9 November. The film will also be shown online through social media.

OMD UK handled the media planning and buying.

Helen Jeremiah, the director of customer strategy and communications at Boots UK, said: "We felt our customers and our gifts deserved to be introduced to each other in a rather special way so we decided to create this exciting, Christmassy world packed full of beauty gifts we’d all love to give… and receive. Upbeat and fun, it’s designed to get us all in the mood for Christmas festivities."
