Brann London has hired the high-profile creative team, Brian Storey

and Xanthos Christodoulou, as joint executive creative directors.

This is the first senior appointment made by Dennis Kerslake, the

managing director, who joined in August (Campaign, 20 August 1999).

The pair, who will join on 31 January, fill a gap in the agency’s senior

creative staff caused by the departure of Paul Kitcatt, the London

shop’s founding managing director and executive creative director, just

a week before Kerslake’s arrival.

The appointment marks the closure of the Oswald Agency, a venture set up

by the duo with an account director from OgilvyOne, Mark Wilson, last

The main part of Oswald’s output was through freelance work with other

agencies, although it had a small number of clients including Granada

Christodoulou said: ’While running our own agency was something we had

always wanted to do, we found ourselves wanting to get back to what we

do best - the creative product.’

Before forming Oswald, Storey and Christodoulou spent a year at HPT

Brand Response following stints at Craik Jones, FCA! and OgilvyOne,

where they teamed up in 1995.

Their appointment signals Brann’s focus on improving the creative

product to move its perception away from being a high-volume direct mail

and data factory.

Through placing its leading creative team in London, Brann is hoping to

illustrate a shift in its power base from its shops in Bristol and

Cirencester to the capital, which it aims to make the fulcrum of a

European network.

Christodoulou added: ’This is a great opportunity and we are

particularly excited about being part of a new management team.

’We will be able to start with a clean canvas, but at the same time

benefit from the experience that you can only get from an agency that

has been around for as long as Brann.’

Kerslake said: ’My mission is to build a strong and leading-edge

business in London, and the first part of that is to increase Brann’s

creative credentials.

’Brian and Xanthos are a rare talent and have a passion for great work.’
