- Businessman Richard Branson and Britain's Post Office are in talks on a possible bid to run the country's hugely successful national lottery, the Guardian newspaper reported.

The newspaper said the Post Office confirmed it had held discussions with Branson, who heads Virgin Group and whose bid to run the lottery on a non-profit basis was beaten by the Camelot consortium last time. But it said no decision had been taken. "We have a keen interest in the future of the lottery, but we will only get involved if we can create the right partnership to maximise the benefits of the lottery to the players."
