CIA Medianetwork has picked up the pounds 3 million media launch
brief for World Online, the Dutch ISP. World Online operates in 14
countries and provides a variety of services. The campaign is expected
to include press, TV and outdoor work.
CIA has also won the brief to launch World Online’s planned
Screen International has launched Europe’s first daily online news
service for the film industry. Screendaily.com offers free global news,
film reviews and box-office comment from all the major territories. News
can be delivered via e-mail or accessed directly on the site. Screen’s
existing ad sales team will handle sales on the website.
FilmFour, the Channel 4 movie channel, has signed up more than 250,000
subscribers in just over a year and hopes to attract another 150,000 by
the end of this year. The existing 250,000 clients exceeded FilmFour’s
forecasts by 100,000, and have helped the channel move closer towards
MediaCom TMB has scooped the planning and buying account for independent
mortgage provider The Mortgage Operation. The account is being handled
by senior planner/buyer Dan Fallon and planner/buyer Anna Kennedy.
The Media Edge’s Johan Denekamp has defected to become European CEO of
Optimum Media Direction, the Omnicom-owned global media network. The
Media Edge’s chief executive Viviane Prat moves to become chairman of
OMD Europe as part of a bid to improve the network’s central management
structure and raise the profile of the OMD brand across Europe.
The first Michelin TV campaign for 18 months was rolled out on national
and satellite channels last week. The pounds 3 million campaign is aimed
at ABC1 men aged 35 and over. Media planning and buying is through MBS
StepStone, the net recruitment agency, has hired Quantum New Media
Services as its online planning and buying agency. The company plans to
spend more than pounds 1 million in the UK on online ads. Quantum, which
is a joint venture between Booth Lockett Makin and Paul Longhurst, the
ex-Ammirati Puris Lintas media director, has clients that include Thomas
Cook and Domino’s Pizza.
The Guardian has recorded a year-on-year sales gain of 64 per cent to
students, after selling the paper in campus shops at a discount price of
15p. It has also reintroduced its voucher scheme this year, which
enables students to buy the paper at any retailer nationwide for the
same reduced price.
The Radio Authority has awarded the local digital multiplex licence for
Liverpool to Emap Digital Radio. The licence covers an area with an
adult population of 1.8 million. Emap Digital Radio is proposing to
