rights to the Metro name in Manchester. Associated Newspapers lost its

Metro Northwest title following the High Court’s decision.





Manchester-based sales house V Media has won the contract to handle

regional advertising sales for Attic Futura which publishes B, Sugar,

Inside Soap and TV Hits. Attic Futura’s group ad director Caroline

Connor said: ’Bringing a regional sales house on board will enable us to

widen our net and enhance our sales potential by focusing on a vital

revenue stream.’





Optimedia has scooped the pounds 5 million account for Jungle.com, the

online retailer. The company is launching a wave of offline advertising

embracing outdoor, press and radio.





IPC Electric managing director Rene Carayol has walked out only two

months after commercial director Julian Hardy quit in similarly sudden

circumstances. Operations director Kevin Kerrigan, who joined the

company in November, has taken over as managing director.





The Radio Authority has received one application for the Edinburgh

digital multiplex licence. Score Digital is proposing to broadcast eight

programme services in the Edinburgh region. The area has a potential

adult coverage of 1.1 million.





MGM Studios has put its media account up for review. MBS Media,

MediaVest and MindShare have all been invited to pitch for the business.

The incumbent is CDP Media.





Figures from the Outdoor Advertising Association showed a big increase

in outdoor ad revenue in the second half of last year. There was a 12.7

per cent increase in revenue compared with the second half of 1998,

around double the prediction of 7.7 per cent.





Leeds-based full-service agency Indigo 6 has picked up the account for

the watch brand Storm. A press and outdoor campaign will roll out in the

spring.





New PHD has landed the Whiskas media planning account. The agency stole

the business from MediaVest, after New PHD’s sister agency AMV BBDO

picked up the creative account in December.





French car manufacturer PSA is conducting a statutory review of its

pounds 90 million UK media planning and buying account. The incumbent is

Initiative Media. It is not known if other agencies have been invited to

pitch.





Net Media Group, the Barclay Brothers’ online venture, has appointed

Agency.com to advance its business strategy. Included in the plans is a

multilingual business-to-business portal serving Europe.





The Radio Authority is inviting applications for a digital multiplex

licence to serve Coventry and the surrounding areas. The closing date

for is 9 May.





A new shopping portal is offering free online advertising. NoBags.com,

which goes live this week, hopes to rival services such as BTSpree and

ShopSmart. NoBags will feature a 30-category directory that will compare

retailers’ prices.
