Ged Burke, the former head of sales at Miller Freeman’s DotMusic

website, has joined a rival music site as commercial director.

Burke will head sales and sponsorship at MusicUnsigned.com, as well as

being responsible for the site’s pioneering directory of unsigned bands,

The Blue List.

Burke said MusicUnsigned was unique among music sites because it is

aimed at the industry and not consumers.

’Consumer-oriented sites such as PeopleSound pay bands, whereas bands

pay us to go onto The Blue List because it gives them access to A&R

staff at the record companies,’ he explained.

According to Burke, The Blue List will provide record companies with

talented unsigned bands, doing away with the need for demo tapes.

The Blue List has stolen a march on print directories of unsigned bands,

such as Music Week’s, which is expected to launch online later this

year.

The Blue List will provide the main source of revenue for MusicUnsigned,

but Burke said there would also be banner ads and sponsorship

opportunities. He heads a sales team of four.

Burke pointed out that although the site was aimed at the music

industry, it would also attract consumers keen to hear the ’creme de la

creme of unsigned bands’
