Business Performance League 16 September 1996

What a week for Young and Rubicam: as confirmation of its pounds 4 million Wrigley’s win from two weeks ago came through, so too did news that the agency had prised the lucrative Dr Pepper account out of Saatchi and Saatchi. Thus was Y&R transformed from mid-table mediocrity to fifth-placed high-flyer.

What a week for Young and Rubicam: as confirmation of its pounds 4

million Wrigley’s win from two weeks ago came through, so too did news

that the agency had prised the lucrative Dr Pepper account out of

Saatchi and Saatchi. Thus was Y&R transformed from mid-table mediocrity

to fifth-placed high-flyer.

Saatchis’ loss, meanwhile, continued a worrying trend. The agency hasn’t

won anything since Channel 5 in May, since when it has lost business

from BT and Playboy TV as well as Dr Pepper, which it only secured last

year. It has now slipped outside the top ten for the first time since

February.

Simons Palmer Clemmow Johnson joined Y&R in the top ten after picking up

the pan-European Fuji business, which boasts a UK advertising budget of

pounds 6 million.

Yellow M recorded its second big win of the year last week with the

pounds 7.5 million Reg Vardy account. It propels the Newcastle agency to

14th place, making it the top new-business player outside London.
