Business Performance League 17 June 1996

There are ways and means of getting client confirmation on a claimed advertising budget. Seeing the campaign plans leaked to your deadliest rival is not the ideal solution but, following the recent revelations about the Conservative Party’s pounds 10 million plans, we’re happy to credit its agency, M&C Saatchi, with the extra pounds 5 million we were disputing.

There are ways and means of getting client confirmation on a claimed

advertising budget. Seeing the campaign plans leaked to your deadliest

rival is not the ideal solution but, following the recent revelations

about the Conservative Party’s pounds 10 million plans, we’re happy to

credit its agency, M&C Saatchi, with the extra pounds 5 million we were

disputing.

Otherwise, there is virtually no change in the business performance

league table this week.

Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO improved its position at number two following a

pounds 1 million Ovaltine win, although once we receive client

confirmation of the pounds 5 million budget for Ogilvy and Mather’s

Kaliber business, the gap between second and third place will close.

Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe had another good week, picking up the

launch advertising for Emap Elan’s new glossy women’s title, curiously

code-named ‘Project Beryl’. Let’s hope that it can come up with

something a bit more racy for the campaign.

For anyone wondering why we haven’t deducted the pounds 3 million

Wrigley’s Spearmint Gum account from Abbott Mead, which resigned the

business last week, it is because the agency is working out six months’

notice. Just as soon as anyone else wins it, we’ll be happy to hand over

the billings.

Meanwhile, we still await client confirmation of the UK budgets on Bates

Dorland’s Regaine and TBWA’s Fujitsu wins. Both are pan-European, but we

only count the UK spend in our table, so we need clarification before we

can act.
