August was never going to make much of a difference to the media new-

business league - few pitches were slated and most of the wins were

pretty small fry.

Of the more significant gains, a couple of pan-European wins brought

tidy increases for UK shops. With the Network triumphing in the pan-

Europe pitch for Kodak’s media business, the UK office added pounds 6

million in billings from Young and Rubicam.

Another international media victory - the Novartis corporate branding

account - pushed up CIA Medianetwork’s UK billings by pounds 4 million.

On the domestic front, the biggest win came for the Media Business

Group, which picked up the pounds 5 million media planning and buying

business for the RAC. The move represented the first major account loss

for New PHD since its formal launch in August. TMBG picked up the

account without a pitch, having worked with the RAC’s marketing

director, Jan Smith, in several of her previous incarnations.

TMBG has yet to lose an account this year.
