BUSINESS PERFORMANCE LEAGUE: 25 November 1996

Just as Mortimer Whittaker O’Sullivan was preparing the Christmas cards with a prominent and gold-embossed number eight to celebrate its position in Campaign’s business performance league, Allied Bakeries handed its account, worth at least pounds 3.6 million, to Publicis. Clearly things are not quite as cosy in the top ten as we had assumed.

Just as Mortimer Whittaker O’Sullivan was preparing the Christmas cards

with a prominent and gold-embossed number eight to celebrate its

position in Campaign’s business performance league, Allied Bakeries

handed its account, worth at least pounds 3.6 million, to Publicis.

Clearly things are not quite as cosy in the top ten as we had assumed.

There was more cause for woe at Cowan Kemsley Taylor and Tom Reddy. As

they hung on to their equal tenth spot at just over pounds 1 million

above Simons Palmer Clemmow Johnson, they could hardly be expected to

legislate for a late surge from BST-BDDP which leaped from 17th to tenth

on the back of its pounds 6.5 million Clairol win, secured earlier in

the year. The win, for which we could not obtain confirmation, has now

been recognised in Register-MEAL.

However, BMP DDB, the losing agency, does not suffer further as we

deducted the loss at the time of the move. In fact, BMP moves up to 11th

after the budget for its CPC Marinades win was confirmed.
