Business Performance League 3 April 1996

Maurice Saatchi’s Mars win, pulling in the pounds 9.6 million Whiskas

account, has propelled M&C Saatchi to the top of the table this week,

sending the previous incumbent, DMB&B, down from fourth to joint 11th.

Maurice’s old charges at Saatchi and Saatchi and his new friends at

Publicis also had a week to celebrate. Saatchis picked up pounds 5

million of new business from Channel 5, while Publicis, M&C Saatchi’s

international partner on the British Airways account, pulled off a coup

by swiping the pounds 5 million Kilkenny launch from Euro RSCG Wnek

Gosper, just four months after it won the task.

The Saatchis Channel 5 victory sets up the intriguing prospect of ‘old

Saatchis’, as we are not allowed to call them, lining up for TV’s new

boys against the renegade agency once referred to as ‘new Saatchi’,

defending the forces of the establishment, ITV.

We await client confirmation of the budgets for recent wins by Walsh

Trott Chick Smith (Sunday Express) and Banks Hoggins O’Shea (Kingsbury).
