I’ve been retuned, or have I? Good luck to Liam, Patsy, Ruud,
Elton, Hugh etc. A Channel 5 retuner has broken both my satellite
decoder and VCR.
The retuner made arrangements for someone else to make the repairs. Two
weeks on, there was no sign of the equipment so I thought I would check
on progress with Channel 5 customer services.
They said that, according to their records, Granada had retuned me. But
when I called Granada, they told me Channel 5 had retuned me so I phoned
C5 customer services again who now directed me to their service
engineering department who finally admitted responsibility for the
I went in for the kill. ’Can you tell me who has got my decoder and
video?’ and that’s the precise moment at which they said they weren’t
the people who had retuned my video. So I decided to phone Radio Rentals
customer services because I hire my VCR from them. They eventually found
out that Channel 5 had indeed retuned me and arranged a delivery date
for the missing equipment.
By this stage I had gone without my satellite decoder and VCR for three
weeks while still paying for the full Sky package. Back on the phone
with C5 customer services, they told me it wasn’t up to them to
compensate me - that was Sky’s job. They said I could write to C5
customer complaints at their London headquarters. I’ve still not heard
anything five weeks on. It seems that customer service is an alien
concept at Channel 5.
