The Diary has received an unceasing flood of calls since Campaign

revealed that the winner of the grand prize in CampaignLive’s Fantasy

Agency League was Martin Jones of the Advertising Agency Register and

his team, The Rocket Scientists. Talk about an inside job.

Jones wins a holiday for two anywhere in the world where the league’s

sponsor, DoubleClick, has an office - which is just about

everywhere.

Jones has been hiding behind the nom de plume Marty (’because it’s close

to Martin’) Seagal (’because I support Brighton FC’) for a year, quietly

deciding who should get on which pitchlists and then rubbing his hands

together as his team racked up another set of points.

Of course, he’s modest when asked about his team selection and the

reason for playing as Marty: ’If people knew you were doing it they

might get worried that they were not in the team.’

So how did he choose his winning team, which included the likes of

Maurice Saatchi and Peter Souter? ’I looked at people most likely to

win, but more importantly not to lose business,’ he explained,

sagaciously. ’Creatively, Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO was a pretty safe bet

for winning lots of creative awards and not getting many turkeys.’

It was a close run thing in the end with Jones on 1,367 points and

Claire Fuller from the Stevens Company in second place with her team,

Dill & Doe, on 1,355. Nick Williams from Leo Burnett came in third with

Thrust scoring 1,349, and Campaign’s very own Treehugger, Eleanor

Trickett, romped in fourth place on 1,345.

The new league starts on 17 April.
