The ongoing saga of plagiarism in adland has reached new heights,
with clients joining in by nicking an agency’s idea.
A few weeks ago, Doner Cardwell Hawkins pitched for the pounds 500,000
launch campaign for the restaurant chain, Nando’s, famed for its
hot’n’spicy Peri Peri sauce. It came up with the cute idea of mimicking
Peri Peri’s name, with the strapline ’Peri Peri is here here’.
Sadly, the agency lost its bid, while the business was awarded to Mustoe
Merriman Herring Levy, after a shoot-out with Mellors Reay and
Imagine Doner Cardwell’s surprise when it saw the hoardings outside
Nando’s new restaurant in Clapham High Street bedecked in little chicken
feet doodles, with the words ’Peri Peri chicken chicken is coming
A good idea obviously never dies then.
