CAMPAIGN DIARY: Mustoe Merriman Herring Levy

The ongoing saga of plagiarism in adland has reached new heights, with clients joining in by nicking an agency’s idea.

The ongoing saga of plagiarism in adland has reached new heights,

with clients joining in by nicking an agency’s idea.

A few weeks ago, Doner Cardwell Hawkins pitched for the pounds 500,000

launch campaign for the restaurant chain, Nando’s, famed for its

hot’n’spicy Peri Peri sauce. It came up with the cute idea of mimicking

Peri Peri’s name, with the strapline ’Peri Peri is here here’.

Sadly, the agency lost its bid, while the business was awarded to Mustoe

Merriman Herring Levy, after a shoot-out with Mellors Reay and

Partners.

Imagine Doner Cardwell’s surprise when it saw the hoardings outside

Nando’s new restaurant in Clapham High Street bedecked in little chicken

feet doodles, with the words ’Peri Peri chicken chicken is coming

coming’.

A good idea obviously never dies then.
