CAMPAIGN DIARY: No pencils for FCB this year, but it has built a lovely new reception

There are few awards more desired than a D&AD pencil and as you can see from the story below, even Tony from EastEnders can get hold of one. But nobody at FCB in London will this year.

There are few awards more desired than a D&AD pencil and as you can

see from the story below, even Tony from EastEnders can get hold of one.

But nobody at FCB in London will this year.

FCB’s entries, including examples of its Molson work, some Citibank

commercials and its house radio campaign, didn’t leave reception. The

agency was having the area re-built when the courier was due to pick up

the package, but it was never collected. It wasn’t until an eagle-eyed

accountant spotted that the cheque hadn’t been cashed that anyone found

out, by which time it was too late.

John Bacon, the creative director, explained that he is going through a

creative director’s worst nightmare. It was made slightly worse when D&AD

explained it had had substantial overseas entries from FCB.

It’s obviously a lot easier to get a package to Vauxhall from Hong Kong

than it is from Covent Garden.
