Silly agency names have long caused consternation among some
non-advertising people. It is certainly going to affect what we write on

You may have seen one a couple of weeks ago about Jay Pond-Jones leaving
GGT to go to work with Robert Saville at Mother.
Jay was doing his usual weekly round of parties when, at a music biz do,
he came across a lady who had seen the poster proclaiming ’Pond-Jones
quits GGT for Mother’. Completely unaware that she was talking to the
subject of the story, she confided that she had always thought all
advertising people were a selfish, egotistical lot and that work was the
only thing they ever thought about. Consequently, she couldn’t believe
the generosity of this guy, whom she could only describe as
’Pond-something’. It turns out that she thought he’d left the agency
because his mother was unwell.
