CAMPAIGN DIARY: Poulters’ ads worked so well the turkeys got gobbled up in no time

It may be too late to be writing about turkeys but, hey, it’s never too late for a good story (I’ll be the judge of that - Ed).

It may be too late to be writing about turkeys but, hey, it’s never

too late for a good story (I’ll be the judge of that - Ed).

The Leeds agency, Poulters, proved beyond doubt the power of advertising

to a local butchers over the festive period. Demonstrating a commendably

lively creative flair, it adopted this festive twist on the ’A dog is

for life’ campaign to advertise Wilson’s turkeys.

So successful was it that by 9.30am on Christmas Eve a crowd had

gathered and a queue formed outside. By 10am extra staff had been called

in, and by 10.30am additional turkeys were sent for.

By 10.45am, however, a bunch of animal rights campaigners arrived, to be

followed ten minutes later by a member of the local constabulary who had

come to clear up the fracas. By 11.00am the campaigners had been told to

get stuffed and by 11.05am the policeman had been handed a complimentary

turkey.

We are further told that by 12 noon the turkeys had sold out and the

client had rung the agency to agree a bigger spend for the following

year.

We’re not sure if that last bit’s true, however.
