CAMPAIGN DIARY: Why waste money on football tickets just to see your team lose ...?

Here’s a sorry tale of World Cup chaos following a ticket agency cock-up. Many Scottish agencies were left without vital tickets for their home nation’s clash with Brazil last week (which Scotland lost 2-1, in case any of you have forgotten) - after a travel agency failed to deliver.

Here’s a sorry tale of World Cup chaos following a ticket agency

cock-up. Many Scottish agencies were left without vital tickets for

their home nation’s clash with Brazil last week (which Scotland lost

2-1, in case any of you have forgotten) - after a travel agency failed

to deliver.

Staff at MTP, the production house, who were escorting guests from 1576,

the Leith and Faulds among others to Paris, started to worry last Monday

morning when 16 tickets failed to arrive as promised. After a day of

panic phone calls on Tuesday, it was decided on Wednesday that the

contingent would travel to France and MTP staff would endeavour to

source some tickets on the way.

Unfortunately, just two tickets were obtained - but who should have

them?

After a quick lottery at Charles de Gaulle airport, the Leith’s Les Watt

and Faulds’ Jim Downie secured the sought-after tickets and went on to

see their boys lose.

Seemingly, the rest of their party had a pretty good a time chanting

’nous somme merde et nous le savons’ (’we’re shit and we know we are’)

and getting drunk with other Scottish fans in a Paris bar.

English colleagues at the various agencies north of the border could be

forgiven for gloating over the fiasco - having been taunted by the

Scottish group over their failure to secure tickets for any England

games
