At least that’s been the case for Zenith Media’s security guard, Colin

Johnson, who has emerged as the unlikely star of a recent Scholz &

Friend’s commercial. Johnson plays a gardener who lugs a giant tomato

around (don’t ask us why) in the ten-second spot for World Books, which

aired last week.



Renowned for his miserable expression, Johnson immediately struck

casting as the perfect choice.



’He always looks like a grumpy old bastard,’ said the copywriter, Kurt

Trew, fondly. ’We knew he’d have the perfect face for a boiler

suit.’



After taking some convincing that the boys weren’t pulling his leg,

Johnson took to his new-found role with consummate ease. But after

boasting to the shoot’s chauffeur that he’d done it all before, he

strangely clammed up when the others caught wind of his boasting and

ribbed him mercilessly.



And how has the security world’s top oracle on genetically modified

tomatoes chosen to spend his new-found riches? By jetting off to the

Canaries with his wife.
