CAMPAIGN-I: AKQA recruits creative team for Palm account

AKQA has hired Leighton Ballett and Lee Goulding, formerly the

deputy creative directors at Rainey Kelley Campbell Roalfe/Y&R, to work

on the pan-European traditional advertising account for Palm.



The team is the first creative hiring for the new-media agency since it

announced its expansion into the US and its global strategic alliance

with Accenture. At the time of the deal, AKQA said it would focus more

on traditional advertising projects.



Ballett and Goulding left RKCR/Y&R earlier this year after

four-and-a-half years at the agency. Since then, they have freelanced at

McCann-Erickson on the Nescafe account.



While at RKCR/Y&R, the duo produced the Steve McQueen Bullitt execution

for the Ford Puma, as well as the Dennis Hopper Easy Rider commercial

for the Cougar. They join AKQA this week.



James Hilton, the chief creative officer at AKQA, said: "I'm more

impressed by what people have in their portfolios than where they have

been. Ballett and Goulding are the first creatives to have come to us

from a traditional background, but all of the creatives here are

multi-disciplined - they are never from a purely new-media

background.



"The duo will be working across all media. There is no distinction

between online and offline - these guys are coming in as creatives."



Ballett said: "From the moment we met the team at AKQA we knew this

challenge was for us. We were ready to step up a level and start at a

new agency.



We liked the fact that we weren't going to have any baggage when we walk

in at AKQA - it was a chance to start from scratch."



AKQA, which has clients including Microsoft and Nike, took on the Palm

global advertising account when it merged with the San Francisco-based

advertising agency Citron Haligman Bedecarre.
