24/7 Media, the global online ad sales house, has poached AltaVista International's Andrew Fawcett-Wolf to be its European sales director.
Fawcett-Wolf, who was the head of sales at AltaVista, replaces Peter Shield, who left to join the VivendiNet-owned Ad2One as the chief operating officer two months ago.
At 24/7 Fawcett-Wolf takes on responsibility for all of the advertising and sponsorship revenue across all platforms including the internet, e-mail, wireless and digital television. He joins the online ad network in an unstable climate - 24/7, Real Media and DoubleClick have all announced redundancies over the past few months. Despite this, Fawcett-Wolf is confident about 24/7's future.
'24/7 Media Europe has a proven strategy for growth and has been extremely successful in attracting high-spending offline advertisers like Unilever and Coke to new media,' he said.
'Interactive media is far more responsive, accountable and cost-effective than traditional media and my role will be to continue developing partnerships with major advertisers across the continent by demonstrating these benefits.'
Before Fawcett-Wolf joined AltaVista, he was the director of EMEA media sales at CNET. He has also worked at CMP Media, where he helped set up an international sales operation. He started his career at VNU Business Publications as the corporate sales manager, where he was responsible for a number of technology titles.
