Capital Radio Advertising poaches MediaVest’s Smith

Capital Radio has poached MediaVest’s commercial director, Linda Smith, to become the managing director of Capital Radio Advertising.

Smith, to become the managing director of Capital Radio Advertising.



For Smith, the appointment marks a return to the radio sales company

after a three-year absence. She worked at Media Sales & Marketing, the

station’s former sales operation, for four years.



Smith succeeds Fru Hazlitt, the sales director of Capital Radio

Advertising, who left at the end of last year to join Yahoo! as its

European sales director. However, Smith’s role will be a beefed-up

version of Hazlitt’s, with added responsibility for the expanding

internet division, Capital Interactive.



Paul Davies, Capital Radio’s commercial director, to whom Smith will

report, said: ’With our business about to expand further into the

digital age, both through new radio services and a significantly

enhanced internet presence, I am sure Linda will play a major part in

building upon the success we have already enjoyed.’



Capital Advertising generates more than pounds 100 million of national

advertising revenue each year, and accounts for around 80 per cent of

the group’s radio turnover. Smith will have around 130 people under her

direct control.



’It is the only position that could have persuaded me to leave

MediaVest,’ Smith said. ’The chance to run the UK’s most successful

media sales team within a major plc company at this stage in the

business’s life is too exciting a challenge to refuse.’



Although Hazlitt’s resignation came as a surprise to Capital, Davies

explained that Smith was the obvious candidate. ’Having recruited and

worked with Linda at MSM, I know what enormous talent she has. The past

two years at MediaVest will only have added to her considerable

experience,’ he said.
