- Carlton Online is to take part in a new fast access internet trial with BT, which will deliver high quality video and audio to the desktop.

The news follows Carlton Online's announcement that it is taking part in interactive TV trials with Microsoft's WebTV.

The BT interactive trial began in North and West London this month and will continue throughout next year. It involves 900 users being given high-speed access to the internet over their normal phone lines using digital technology. Other content providers taking part include the BBC, Flextech Television, ITN and Pearson Television.

Carol Dukes managing director of Carlton Online, said: "The WebTV trial is about bringing the internet to TV sets and merging web content with our programmes. The BT interactive trial offers us the chance to bring some of our programming to viewers on the internet and present it in ways not currently possible in a broadcast environment."
