Carlton Television is looking for high-calibre graduates to take

part in a management training scheme it hopes will create the ’next

generation’ of sales people.

The aim of the scheme is to prepare newly recruited staff for every

commercial aspect of the business, including airtime sales, the

internet, sponsorship and marketing.

Fran Cassidy, marketing director of sales at Carlton Television,

explained that the company was looking for ’fresh thinking graduates

with commercial flair’.

Carlton has already headhunted 25 graduates over the last few months,

and is looking for another 12 to take places on the scheme that launches

this week.

The training package will offer the handpicked graduates experience of

the TV market across most of its departments.

The initial placement period will last for 18 months, although those who

complete the course will be offered a permanent post.

As Carlton’s respective departments are now working closer together on

areas such as the development of interactive television, the company

believes that training staff in every discipline will help it in the

long term.

Cassidy explained: ’As media is going through a massive period of

change, we have to create new training patterns that reflect the needs

of the market.’
