Channel 4 has poached Jon Stevens, the creative director of the cable broadcaster Discovery Networks Europe, to be its new creative director.

Channel 4 has poached Jon Stevens, the creative director of the

cable broadcaster Discovery Networks Europe, to be its new creative

director.

The appointment follows the departure of Dave Buonaguidi, the channel’s

first creative director, who left at the beginning of the year to set up

a new creative venture, Karmarama.

Stevens will be responsible for leading in-house and external teams on

the production of on-air promotions as well as the channel’s overall

identity. He will lead the expansion of Channel 4’s creative services

department, with the creation of a development unit that will work on

projects outside the day-to-day on-air promotions.

Channel 4’s controller of marketing, Polly Cochrane, said: ’Discovery is

one of the strongest brands in the multi-channel world and his

experience there - both strategic and creative - will prove a real asset

to us as we promote the Channel 4 brand in the digital age and extend it

into new-media areas.’

Stevens has been the creative director of Discovery since December 1996,

overseeing the on-air promotions for nine channels which are broadcast

across 65 countries.

Before joining Discovery he was a freelance promotions director and

producer, working for broadcasters such as Carlton Television, Central

Television and UK Living.

Stevens said: ’It is an exciting time for Creative Services as the role

of the department is set to expand. We will be adding to the talent we

already have in-house by bringing in people with complementary creative

skills.’
