Channel 4 has poached Jon Stevens, the creative director of the
cable broadcaster Discovery Networks Europe, to be its new creative
The appointment follows the departure of Dave Buonaguidi, the channel’s
first creative director, who left at the beginning of the year to set up
a new creative venture, Karmarama.
Stevens will be responsible for leading in-house and external teams on
the production of on-air promotions as well as the channel’s overall
identity. He will lead the expansion of Channel 4’s creative services
department, with the creation of a development unit that will work on
projects outside the day-to-day on-air promotions.
Channel 4’s controller of marketing, Polly Cochrane, said: ’Discovery is
one of the strongest brands in the multi-channel world and his
experience there - both strategic and creative - will prove a real asset
to us as we promote the Channel 4 brand in the digital age and extend it
into new-media areas.’
Stevens has been the creative director of Discovery since December 1996,
overseeing the on-air promotions for nine channels which are broadcast
across 65 countries.
Before joining Discovery he was a freelance promotions director and
producer, working for broadcasters such as Carlton Television, Central
Television and UK Living.
